I am putting together the next issue of the magazine. Previous issues have relied heavily on contributions from you: full blown articles, snippets of information, thoughts, experiences and, of course, photographs. Since the results seem to have met with general approval, I am asking you to let me have anything you think might be of interest or help to other NAG members. The maximum number of words is in the region of 500-600. The content is really up to you, but you might like to think about some of these topics:
Purpose Built Student Accommodation: what do you think of it, where do you think it is best located, do you have any experience of the effects (good or bad) it is having on you and your neighbourhood?
Student Housing Action Plan: what is your opinion of the present plan, and what would you like to see in the next plan which is due to be developed over the coming year?
Balanced Communities: What constitutes a balanced community or, conversely, what makes a community/neighbourhood imbalanced?
Tipping Point: How many HMOs/students do you think your neighbourhood can sustain before it is tipped over the edge into imbalance?
Landlordism/Studentification: How have you been affected by it personally – how you feel and think and plan for the present and the future?
Neighbourhood: What do you value about your home and neighbourhood – why haven’t you sold up and moved out?
Nice Reports: Friendly student neighbours, good landlords, council officers who have been particularly helpful – anything that counteracts the usual doom and gloom.
Photographs: Many of the photographs in the NAG archives are the bad news ones - little, rubbish, rundown properties, overgrown gardens, dumped sofas, mattresses, pilfered road signs. They are always welcome, especially if they illustrate a particular point. However, it would be nice to continue getting photographs which also show some of the good things about our neighbourhoods, their character, etc. Think of the last issue of the magazine which carried a mixture of photographs. We need more of that
If you are worried about what to contribute to the magazine or how to help, don’t be! Just give me a call and we can talk about it.
