This was a one-day conference organized by UNIPOL (Leeds) and hosted by Nottingham City Council. It was intended for all stakeholders: councillors and local authority staff, university and higher education institution staff, students and community representatives. It followed on from the first national conference, held in Leeds in October 2004. This had been attended by NAG representatives and the Co-ordinator of the NAG had given a presentation/workshop on Nottingham’s neighbourhoods and the effects that HMOs were having on them.
The NAG was closely involved in arrangements before the Nottingham conference. On the day, members of the Group helped with registration and provided other assistance as and when needed. During the lunch break, the Group hosted a meeting for out-of-town National HMO Lobby delegates. The Group also put together a display to illustrate the neighbourhoods where HMOs and so-called ‘studentification’ are issues. This was commented on by many of the attendees and has since been used as the basis for the Summer/Autumn 2006 issue of the magazine. The Co-ordinator was invited to give a talk and presentation in the afternoon session under the general heading: ‘Local Perspectives – Nottingham’. A copy of the agenda for the meeting is attached as is a copy of the presentation given by the Co-ordinator.
